PPD is currently recruiting for our 2019 Internship Program at our Middleton, WI GMP Laboratory. We are seeking students that have a Junior or Senior status. The Program requires full-time Summer hours AND part-time Fall hours. The Fall semester will offer flexibility around the student’s schedule, but we would prefer at least 2 available days during the week. The student will benefit by applying what they have learned in the classroom to practical situations and by having various opportunities to develop professionally. 


Our GMP Biopharmaceutical Lab, one of our fastest growing labs, focuses on large molecule analytical testing. They work with a wide range of biologics including therapeutic peptides, proteins and DNR/RNA based treatments (gene therapies). A large variety of analytical methodologies are used including HPLC, ELISA, CE, ICE, gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry.

  

Interns will learn about a contract research laboratory and their role within the pharmaceutical research and development industry. They will also be assigned specific project activities under the direction of their supervisor. The student will benefit by applying what they have learned in the classroom to practical situations and by having various opportunities to develop professionally. 


Pay: $12.00/hr.

Degree concentrations desired: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Microbiology, Biology or other life science degrees.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting team members with assigned tasks in specific project areas, as well as completing tasks in "Student's Measurable Learning Objectives"
  • Training within department (attend departmental specific training)
  • Attending meetings and other learning opportunities
  • Other tasks under the direction of the PPD supervisor

Education and Experience:

  • Must be enrolled in a Life Science Undergraduate program
  • Typically enrolled as a rising Junior or rising Senior

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organizational skills and strong attention to detail, with proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Good English and grammar skills
  • Good computer skills, proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in Regulated Laboratory environment

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently stationary for 4-6 hours per day.    
  • Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.  
  • Occasional mobility required.
  • Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.      
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
  • Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • May interact with others, relating and gathering sensitive information.  Interaction includes diverse groups.
  • Works with guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions from management.  May require periods of intense concentration.   
  • Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence.  Ability to perform under stress.  Ability to multi-task.  
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
